For anyone who wants to read Forster's original Epilogue to Maurice, you can do so for free on LJ (without buying the Abinger edition of the novel, which MHiH was recommending). devo79 did some very thorough research for two Maurice fics she posted on LJ in 2007, including posting Forster's whole Epilogue here: http://devo79.livejournal.com/4001.html

If anyone does buy the Abinger edition and it gives any detail about the pre-published drafts of Maurice and differences from the 1971 published novel, please get in touch.  I just found out very recently that Forster added the boathouse happy ending very late on. He originally had Alec actually emigrate to Argentina (*sobs uncontrollably*), and even at one point wrote (quite clunky) dialogue in which Maurice refuses to go to the hotel with Alec (*sob sob sob*). So if the Abinger edition adds anything significant I need to know. It's a long shot, but thanks!
